Special Issue Introduction

Inflammation of the central nervous system- “neuroinflammation” has gained considerable importance over the past several decades in both physiological and pathological conditions. The existence of major communication between the nervous and immune systems represents the fundamental principle underlying neuroinflammation. Neuroinflammation has been identified as a key player in the initiation & progression of neurodegeneration involving a cascade of mechanisms. Inflammation has been identified to be at the crux of several neurological disorders, including but not limited to Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Virus and Substance Abuse-mediated neurological disorders. This Special Issue will be focused on the latest trends and developments in the field of neuroinflammation with emphasis on mechanism(s) underlying neurodegeneration and also developments in diagnosis and interventions, as well as the limitations & future perspectives for the use of anti-inflammatory agents in neurological disorders as potential therapeutics.
