Special Issue Introduction

Protein liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) plays a crucial role in mediating dynamic assembly of different membraneless organelles such as stress granules and P-body. Dysregulation of protein LLPS leads to aberrant phase transition and protein amyloid aggregation which is closely associated with different neurodegenerative diseases (ND) including Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. This special issue will mainly focus on (1) discovery and characterization of new pathological amyloid protein in NDs; (2) mechanistic basis underlying protein LLPS and pathological aggregation in NDs; (3) different pathological activities of amyloid protein aggregates in disease; (4) developing different strategies for preventing pathological amyloid aggregation. Research articles, reviews, and comments are all welcomed.
